Snowdonia Odyssey - Day six

Cnicht or a day off?

We decided that we needed a day off .

Over a leisurely breakfast we decided to see what Beddgelert was like.

Our noisy neighbours
I asked our neighbours how their Snowdon trek had been. They said they had avoided the crowds by taking the Snowdon Ranger.

Nimblewill Nomad's 'Little Dandy'

We had missed out on the lakeside path back to the campsite yesterday so we thought we'd take it today to see what we'd missed, then walk to the nearest bus stop for the bus to Beddgelert.

What could go wrong...

It started ok. We found the path and smiled and waved at happy runners half way round the mountain marathon. Hmm, path can't be that bad if there's runners...

However the path disintegrated into a boulder-filled wood that my ankle was not liking one bit. Surely we'd missed a turning...

We finally made it to the road only to find we had to walk another mile for the bus stop.

And then wait the best part of an hour for the S4 bus.

However, Beddgelert is a really nice village. Tarnished a little by the touristy shops but still very nice.

Had a pleasant lunch, toured the gift shops...

...visited Gelert's grave...

I bought some souvenirs, including a teatowel for the nice cake lady, and we sampled the local beers at the Prince Llewellyn (where, incidentally, we chatted to an Australian on his first day working at the pub).

After a while, as we had phone signal, we started the game of find the taxi.

After several hilarious attempts, Snowdon Taxis were booked. As it turned out a very nice chap.

As the taxi drew up I realise I had lost 'Ol Trusty, my vintage walking stick. By this time all the places we'd been to were shut, so I resolved to 'nip back quick first thing in the morning'.

The taxi driver sympathised with me over 'Ol Trusty as he had nearly lost a gift his Grandfather had given him when he was a child and which he'd always carried with him.

Amazing. Silver and gold plated real leaves,

More burnt (and blurry) food
