A bit of Mr. W's history

Well, I had an interesting phone call from Mr. W's third owner the other day..

He bought the car from widow of the second owner who'd had it for 20 years after buying it from Rootes (Rootes was the first registered, owning it for a year).
It had been sitting in the garage for many years. The widow had given it to her neighbour who promptly sold it on. The paint had deteriorated along with the Rostyles and the body had a few rusty spots.

The new owner was a car dealer. He had it taken to bare metal, the body repaired and then re-sprayed in its original colour - 127 peacock blue and also fitted the sunroof.

He couldn't at the time get stripes to match the original so bought the thinner stripes from Halfords!

Thin stripes, Ford Rostyles...
...thick stripes, Rootes Rostyles

He didn't refurbish the original wheels, he fitted some Ford items.Well, that's several questions answered....

I remember when talking to the other Mr. W, another owner, the one responsible for rebuilding the head (and gearbox, incidentally), he remarked he always thought it was quite a fast car.

Well, here's another question answered: The new owner fitted a 'mild road cam' in place of the original.

Vroom..!
