Five and half relaxing miles on a Sunday morning...
Ayot St Lawrence.
The Brocket Arms. A really nice 14th century pub with bags of character. Good food too. Local preserves for sale at the back of the bar. |
What a curious name.
Apparently knocked down because it spoilt the view... |
George Bernard Shaw lived out the last years of his life here. The house is now an NT property 'Shaw's Corner'.
A short loop using initially the Hertfordshire Way took us South West to the outskirts of Wheathampstead ...
...where we joined the Ayot Greenway (an old railway) towards more Ayots:...
...Ayot Mountfitchet, Ayot St Peter and Ayot Bury.
New cows |
Sadly we turned north before we reached them and head back to our original Ayot.
The overcast day did not detract from the relaxing trails through ancient coppiced woods and distant views across the Hertfordshire landscape.
Old sheep |
Leaving the Ayot Greenway |
So that's a hornbeam then... |
Very relaxing day out.
