Sedbergh to Dufton - Tuesday, 28th August
31 miles cycled.
Failed to get away by 9:00...Out of the Dales now, a stiff start to the day and a brief brush with the M6 along country lanes took us to...
...Orton for a late breakfast and its amazing chocolate shop.
More very pleasant lanes and a gradual pull up to the pass over the brow of Great Asby Scar...
...and a snack stop at the monument at Middle Busk.

Contemplating... |
...passing time... |
...I guess. |
There were... |
...a couple of trees planted... |
...inside. |
They didn't look too happy. |
Shame really. |
Lunch at Appleby-in-Westmorland.
Keith's bike rack was in need of a repair: Keith had a screw loose. I've often suspected...
Urgent repairs at Pigneys Hardware, Appleby |
Helmwind isn't really a bike shop but a training centre for prospective bike mechanics but the proprietor John could not have been more helpful. He even supplied tea and some lights for David.
It really was a pleasant day.
We pushed on.
With the end of the day nearing, we looked around for a place to stay.
Just past Dufton on my map there's a campsite called Galiber, which David couldn't find any details for.
However we were more than pleased with what he did find: Alanholme campsite at Long Marton.
Tent pitched before 6:00! Must be a record! |
They even phoned the Mason's Arms to 'book' us in for a meal.
Great little touches like tea, coffee, microwave (and cakes to raise money for the village playground) in the showerblock. |
The Mason's Arms proved a very friendly place with great food and beer.
